Elliana & Abriella
Sorry it's been awhile, but we have been a little busy! Going from 1 to 3 kids has been crazy! The past couple of weeks have been a blur, and I am sure the next couple of weeks will be the same.
As I sit here waiting for one of the babies to wake for their midnight feeding, I still can't get over the fact that I AM A MOTHER OF 3!!! My pregnancy for the twins was easier on my body than it was with Nadia. With Nadia my blood pressure always ran high and in the end I ended up being preeclampsia causing Nadia to be born a week earlier than planned. This pregnancy my blood pressure was NEVER an issue. This pregnancy I had far more pain, but I guess that is normal with twins! My doctor basically told me from the beginning of August that if I didn't go into labor that my scheduled c-section would be set for August 26th, 2010 (38 weeks pregnant), however the babies had other plans. For 2 weeks prior to Aug. 26th, Chris was on pins and needles. Every time I would say anything to him, he thought I was saying I was in labor, well the night it actually happened he didn't believe me. On August 24th, when Chris and I went to bed at 10:30pm, I had a strange feeling, I never mentioned it to Chris because I wanted him to relax. Around 1:15 am (8/25), I got up to use the restroom. Went to the bathroom and did my business and just didn't feel right, but I decided to head back to bed and forget about it. Just as I walked out the bathroom door, my water broke. After I gathered my thoughts I yelled into Chris and said, "Chris, my water just broke." His response was, "Are you effing kidding me?!" I said, "ummm, no, I am serious!" Chris later said that since we had a scheduled date for the c-section he just never thought I would go before then, so he didn't believe me. Once we got to the hospital around 2am, they checked me and I was only .5 centimeter dilated. After we got all settled in, the nurse informed us that the c-section would not be until 9 am...needless to say we were not impressed because I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes regularly. We later found out that my doctor was not happy either because he wanted to do it when I came in, but the hospital did not have an OR. Finally at 9 am I was walking to the OR and at 9:31 Elliana Alice Brown came out screaming and at 9:32 Abriella Grace Brown came out breach and screaming. After being checked out by the neonatologist the babies were given the ok to be sent to the regular nursery....YAY! After the babies went to the nursery with Daddy, my doctor said to me, "Did we talk about the babies being identical?" I said, "well you said there's a chance because they shared a placenta, but that was it." He then said, " I believe that they are identical, but we will know for sure in 30 days, because I am sending your placenta away to be examined a little closer." After talking to the nurses they said that the doctor is usually 95% accurate. We should find out on September 30th, when I go for my follow-up.
Since we have been home, it has been crazy busy and stressful all at once. My recovery from this c-section was MUCH harder this time. I have had far more pain this time. The babies had their first doctor's appointment last week and they each have gained 2 pounds and grew 1 inch. Nadia has done really well with the babies, I know it's still early but I hope it continues.
Well, Elli is finishing her feeding so it's time for me to go to bed for a few hours!
